Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 9-inch cake pan generously with nonstick cooking spray.

Add the sugar to a saucepan and cook over medium heat until it melts and turns a light golden-brown color. Add the ¼ cup butter and stir until combined. Reduce the heat to very low while you prepare the peaches.

Slice the peaches and arrange them evenly across the bottom of the prepared cake pan.

Carefully pour the warm butter and sugar mixture evenly over the peaches.

In a large bowl, combine the milk, melted butter or oil, and eggs. Mix until combined.
